160,000 dollars américains de subvention et inauguration du 190e projet de construction d’école de la Fondation Digicel
Port-au-Prince, HAITI – March 13, 2023: On March 7, in celebration of its 16th anniversary, the Digicel Foundation inaugurated its 190th construction project. Additionally, from March 9 to 11, 2023, prize ceremonies took place across different departments of the country for the winners of the sixth edition of the Konbit Pou Chanjman program. Sixteen organizations were awarded grants of $10,000 USD each.
Following the August 14, 2021 earthquake, the Digicel Foundation had committed to rebuilding several schools destroyed by the disaster. A year and a half later, this promise is being fulfilled at a rapid pace. Last Tuesday, as the Foundation celebrated its 16th anniversary in Haiti, it inaugurated its 190th construction project – the Paul VI School in Vieux Bourg d’Aquin. Two other construction projects are also in advanced stages and are expected to be completed by the second quarter of this year.
In the presence of local dignitaries, members of the press, school officials, and students, Fritz-Gérald Joseph, head of construction at the Digicel Foundation, emphasized that "the project delivery could have been made earlier if not for the challenges posed by the difficult situation in the country." He added that this school is just the beginning of a series of inaugurations planned for the rest of the year, stating, "The Digicel Foundation has always been committed and continues to make great efforts to contribute to improving learning conditions and education in Haiti."
Last week was also marked by the award ceremonies for the sixth edition of Konbit Pou Chanjman. As usual, these events were organized in the respective departments of the finalist organizations. Notably, this year, the Digicel Foundation exceeded its original commitment by funding 16 organizations instead of the initially planned 15. For this edition, $160,000 USD will be allocated to projects focused on agricultural development, fishing, education, and more.
