D’une pierre deux coups : la Fondation Digicel honore sa promesse en inaugurant ses 191e et 192e écoles

Port-au-PrinceJune 28, 2023: On Wednesday, June 28, 2023, the Digicel Foundation inaugurated two new schools in the Grand Sud region, fulfilling its promise made after the August 14, 2021 earthquake.

Initially, the Digicel Foundation had planned to allocate one million US dollars for the reconstruction of some of the schools destroyed in this area. In the end, nearly two million dollars were invested in rebuilding and equipping four educational institutions located in the South and Grande-Anse regions. Despite the difficult situation in the country, these reconstructions were made possible through the determination of a resilient team and the invaluable support of the local communities.

After the students of Collège Frères Unis de Ravine Sable (South) and École Paul VI de Vieux Bourg (South), it was now the turn of the students of École Congréganiste Nationale St Michel de Charpentier (South) and École Nationale Congréganiste Notre Dame du Perpétuel Secours de Latibolière (Grande-Anse) to move into their brand-new school buildings. The warm reception and festive atmosphere reflected the gratitude of the residents of both communities. From Latibolière to Charpentier, the Digicel Foundation successfully accomplished two goals in one move!

Each of the two latest constructions includes 15 classrooms, as well as additional facilities necessary for the full development of the students and the proper management of the staff (such as playgrounds, administration buildings, etc.). It’s important to note that for these four constructions, the Digicel Foundation was able to rely on the support of Hope For Haiti for the first two schools and the W.K. Kellogg Foundation for the latter two.

Sophia Stransky, Executive Director of the Digicel Foundation, expressed her pride and satisfaction during the inauguration of these two schools: "It took a lot of determination to complete these constructions. I want to thank and congratulate the team and our construction firms for their commitment and hard work. We have now built 192 schools benefiting over 62,000 students, and we remain committed to continuing to make education our priority because we firmly believe that every child in this country deserves the chance to reach their full potential."

With these two inaugurations, the Digicel Foundation takes a significant step in its mission to strengthen education in Haiti. These new schools mark an important milestone in building a bright future for young Haitians, particularly those in the Grand Sud region.
