Digicel Foundation Returns to St. Elizabeth with Back-to-School Fair
St. Elizabeth, Jamaica – August 09, 2024 – In a display of corporate social responsibility, the Digicel Foundation, JPS Foundation, and Flow Foundation joined forces to support residents of St. Elizabeth, still recovering from the devastating effects of Hurricane Beryl.
Partnering with Food for the Poor, the trio hosted a Back-to-School Fair at the BB Coke High School, providing vital resources to equip students for the upcoming academic year.
The Digicel Foundation donated fully loaded backpacks and school supplies, while the JPS Foundation offered book vouchers and convenient charging services. The Flow Foundation contributed school uniform material vouchers, ensuring students have the necessary attire for school.
Other sponsors included SportsMax, Main Event, and the National Water Commission.
"We are proud to continue our support for the resilient people of St. Elizabeth," said CEO of Digicel Foundation, Charmaine Daniels. "We know that the parish has been going through a lot since Hurricane Beryl and we just wanted to do what we can to give back as we prepare for back-to-school. At the Digicel Foundation we have backpacks for the children with school supplies. We also gave out credit and some prizes.”
Despite setbacks, the Digicel Foundation remains committed to building smart rooms in St. Elizabeth, with two projects underway and 20 planned by year-end.
“The work we do in St Elizabeth is so important to us. The week before the hurricane we were about to start two smart rooms in this parish. One at Santa Cruz Primary and one at Black River Primary. As you know by now, Black River Primary was severely damaged,” Daniels explained.
“We are waiting for that to be fixed to start the smart room there. Santa Cruz has been started and we are hoping to have it ready in about six weeks’ time for the students when they go back to school,” she added while outlining that the initiative is a part of Digicel Foundation’s 20th anniversary flagship project.
Last month, all three foundations also came together to give care packages to residents in sections of St Elizabeth.
